Klipkop Volunteer Programme - Where Volunteers Stay

Volunteers stay in the homestead located on plot #30 Klipkop, owned by Tony Prince and Mary Lewis. A maximum of 12 volunteers can be accommodated at any one time.

Each room houses between 2-6 volunteers, has bunk-beds, bed-side tables and lamps, chairs and plenty of cupboard space. Now, for the rest of the house:

  • Bathrooms: There are 3 bathrooms with 'Western-style' toilets, and showers/baths with hot and cold running water.
  • Lounges: Volunteers have virtually free run of the house, including the main lounge and the 'pool house'. The pool house has a small kitchen where volunteers help themselves to breakfast and lunch. Dinner is prepared by staff and is served in the house.
  • Pool: There is a small in-ground swimming pool next to the pool house. It has lovely grassy surrounds, a BBQ (or braii as it is known in South Africa) and a great view on to the Sanctuary. Perfect for a lazy weekend in the African sun.
  • Office: Phone, fax and internet access is available from the small office in the house. Usage is charged on a user pays basis. We do recommend you bring a phone-card with you, as it is likely to work out cheaper than using standard charge rates.

The property is connected to mains power, however we do have a back-up generator when the summer storms decide to take out the power, and Eskom (power company) take a while to restore it.

We generally try to 'organise' one black-out per month - as watching the electrical storms from the lounge window is just spectacular! Did you know there are more deaths from lighting strikes in South Africa than any part of the world...
